LifeJournal Newsletter - April, 2008

Years ago the commercial selling a laxative asked about prunes, “Four enough? Six too many?” This month’s newsletter examines the issue of regularity—not in your bathroom habits, but in your journal writing routine. (And no, we haven’t noticed a correlation between those two…)

The second article is a quick tip about preserving your journal entries.  Take several minutes today and make sure you have backed up, exported, or printed your entries.

Here’s a reminder that there are two upcoming conferences that I recommend highly if you are looking to connect with and learn from other journal writers:

How Often to Write in your Journal? (And Does this Matter?)

How do you get into the habit of writing in your journal consistently? It’s a question that most journal writers face at some point. And really does it matter that you write regularly?  Whether you write often depends onyour purpose for writing.  Is it to preserve memories? To sort out issues? To track physical or emotional, spiritual, or intellectual progress?  Track health symptoms?

If journal writing is pleasurable, then writing is its own reward. If journal writing becomes a task you “should” do, rather than something that is internally compelling, then you are more likely to write less consistently. So part of the issue can be reframed to ask, "How do you make journal writing pleasurable?”

End Quotes:

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly.  We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act but a habit.”    --Artistotle
