How to Customize a LifeJournal Program for a Gift

1. Install LJ onto your computer and create a writer--(the recipient of the gift) and do not use a password. Do not enter the key.
2. Go to the application toolbar , and click the Quotes button to open the Quotes display dialog. Then go to the File menu>Manage Quotes. Enter the quote in the display box on the right, and also enter the first and last name of the quote’s author. Click the "enter" button. Enter as many quotes as you'd like repeating this method.
3. Go to the application toolbar, and open the Prompts display dialog. Then go to the File menu>Manage Prompts.  Select a Category for which you’d like to labe the Prompts. Click the "New" button and enter the prompt in the display box on the right. Click the "Enter" button. Enter as many prompts as you'd like. 
4. When you are finished entering quotes and prompts, and any other customization that you'd like, close all the LifeJournal windows except the main application LJ window.  Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port on your computer. From the LJ application, go to File menu>Back Up Journal Data. In the Backup Dialog box that appears, click the " Browse" button and navigate to the your USB flash drive. Click "OK."

When you give your gift, give the  LifeJournal CD and the USB flash drive. 

Here's how the gift recipient should proceed: 

1. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port of her computer. 
2. Install LJ onto the recipient’s computer. 
3. After the program is installed, the first dialog box has three choices: "New Writer, " Open Existing," or "Restore Writer." Select "Open Existing," and browse to the "[YourName].ljd file.

The gift recipient will have the program that you have purchased plus the customized quotes and prompts that you have created.
