LifeJournal™ Newsletter – December 2007

I accept that it’s simply an outrageously busy time of year. Not only are there holiday gifts to buy, wrap, and give, holiday parties to throw or attend, but there are family and friends to visit or welcome into your home. Any one of these can be time consuming, but combine one or more and we’re firmly in “overwhelm” mode.

So, I thought, that now is a good time to explore the subject of silence. See this newsletter’s first article. I’ve also included in this month’s newsletter a brief tip about how to organize your Topics List within the LifeJournal programs.

With warmest wishes to each you for a meaningful, joyous, and peaceful holiday. Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year!

And may each of you enjoy at least a few moments of reflective silence during this this holiday season!

Silence: A Place to Start a Journal Enty

Silence takes many shapes: There’s the awkward silence, the pregnant pause, the meaningful silence, the collective moment of silence remembering and honoring our heroes, the random few seconds of silence that occurs in a roomful of people when all at once—and momentarily—no one is speaking. There’s the almost eerie silence experienced late at night outside after a new snowfall. And there’s the silence that often occurs during a conversation among a small group of people, signaling that the night is drawing to a close.

“LifeJournal is a great program, and I’m determined to use it daily, at least fifteen minutes. Writing daily, a “brain dump” really seems to spark my creativity for the rest of the day.”

–Jamia Kelly

Tip: How to Put the Topics in a Particular Order within the Topics List
A customer wrote to us who wanted to create a particular order for the topics in the Topics List. The Topics List automatically orders the top level topics alphabetically, and then each of the subtopics is in alphabetical order. The customer wnated to order her list non-alphabetically.

The solution is quite easy: Put a number in front of each of the topics and then you’ll order those numerically. There is one caveat: This works for the numbers 0 through 9. Once you get into double digits (10, 11, the order isn’t numerical. The numbers are read as text so the order of the following numbers would be 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 20, 21, 3, 4 etc.)

End Quotes:
“Those who know do not speak; those who speak do not know.”
–Lao Tzu

“Finding the center of strength within ourselves is in the long run the best contribution we can make to our fellow men.”
—Rollo May

“Our job in this lifetime is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it.”
